MIXED MARTIAL ARTS AND BOXING

With the advent and rise of popularity of Fighters, many of the people among us have become diehard fans of mixed martial arts. But few of us know about the basic areas that comprise the sport of mixed martial arts.Mixed Martial arts is the combat sport which allows both striking and grappling techniques. The first regulated MMA league was created in 1980 by CV productions Inc. in United States of America.

MMA comprises of three basic areas which are as follows:

Submission
Striking
Wrestling

Many people are familiar about the art of wrestling because of the popularity of mixed martial arts. There is a huge difference between these 3 terms in MMA.

RULES AND REGULATIONS OF MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

Weight Divisions
Some weight limitations are already defined in MMA. In non-championship fight 1 pound weight is allowed while in championship fights the participants should have weight not more than the relevant weight division

Fighting Area/Ring
The fight or competition should be held in a ring or in a fenced area.

Equipment
Proper equipment should be provided to the participants including clean plastic water bottle and other important stuff.

Protective Equipment
Male MMA should wear the groin protector approved by the commissioner while female MMA are prohibited from wearing groin protector but they should wear chest protector for the competition.

Mouthpieces and gloves
All participants should wear mouthpieces in order to protect their selves from and harm. They should also wear gloves with at least 4 ounces which should be approved by the commissioner.

BOXING
Another interesting and popular martial art is boxing. Boxing is a combat sport in which two people wear gloves and throw punches at each other. The important goal of this sport is to weaken your opponent and knock him down. It is both Olympic and commonwealth sport.

A supervisor called referee supervise this game for one to three minutes interval which are called rounds. The result is decided on basis of some rules. If one of the participants is incapable of fighting more or if any participant has broken some rule. Sometimes the result is decided on the basis of judges’ scorecards.

RULES AND REGULATION OF BOXING

Equipment
In order to protect the hands, the participants should wear hand gloves. For the protection of mouth and teeth, mouth pieces are worn by the participants. Amateur boxers should wear headgear as well for their protection.

Other rules are as follows:

Boxers can only punch each other because it is the only legal way of boxing.
Punches should land above the waistline of the rival and they should not land on the back.
If any boxer has done any intentional foul then that boxer is disqualified from the game and if boxers have commit any unintentional fouls then they receive a warning from referee.
If the boxer is knocked down then the rival is not allowed to hit him and the referee starts the ten- count.
If the boxer is suffering from any severe injury then the referee can stop the fighting at any time.
